Why This Training? This program is the culmination of over 20 years of Ricky Tran’s personal practice, study, and more than 25,000 hours of teaching yoga. He has guided thousands of students, opened three yoga studios in Dallas, toured and taught at dozens of studios across the U.S., presented at conferences and festivals, and worked with over 100 private clients.
This program is rooted in lineage, real-world experience, and timeless yoga scriptures. Many of his students have changed their lives through these trainings, and some have opened their own studios, managed others', and continue teaching and practicing. As a matter of fact, a couple of his graduates have a studio in Plano that was nominated for the Best of Dallas Yoga Studios in 2025!
At the heart of this training is Ricky’s core belief: one must first understand yoga through study and practice before becoming a teacher. Students will embody yoga deeply before learning how to share it.
Program Focus The practice will be vinyasa-based, meaning breath-centered practice with variations for progressive advancement at any level. The core belief is healing first and foremost, transformation second, and awakening as the ultimate goal, just as it was intended thousands of years ago.
Lineage: Inspired by the teachings of Sri T. Krishnamacharya and his students Pattabhi Jois, B.K.S. Iyengar, Srivatsa Ramaswami, and T.K.V. Desikachar.
Practice: Progressive vinyasa (breath-based movement), functional breathing, anatomy of the body and mind, and exploration of spirit.
Integration: Each class weaves together asana, pranayama, and meditation/relaxation. Study: Students explore Sanskrit texts such as the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Yoga Sutra, and Bhagavad Gita, alongside modern resources on anatomy, postures, and breathwork.
FAQ: Q: Who is this training for? A: Anyone ready to deepen their yoga practice and understanding — whether the goal is to teach or simply live more fully, guided by timeless yogic principles. The goal isn't perfection but excellence. No prior experience is required, but some yoga practice experience is recommended.
Q: How is this training different from other programs? A: Unlike many programs that train students to teach before understanding yoga, this training emphasises practice and personal transformation before teaching methodology and the business of yoga. The program treats yoga as a holistic discipline: body, mind, and spirit.
Q: Will I be certified to teach yoga after this training? A: Yes. Graduates receive certification through Yoga Health Institute Corporation.
Q: What will I learn? A: Beyond the most valuable knowledge, which is Self knowledge, you will learn:
Asana (Postures) & Movement: Alignment, progressive variations and modifications, and the art of sequencing. Breath & Meditation: Functional breathing, pranayama, and meditation for clarity and healing. History, Philosophy & Sanskrit: Yoga Sutras, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Bhagavad Gita, and key yogic concepts. Anatomy & Physiology: Musculoskeletal, organ systems, nervous system, and the anatomy of breath. Teaching Skills: Voice, cueing, class design, physical assists, and practicum. Business of Yoga: Teaching at studios/gyms, private clients, finding your niche for workshops and special events, opening and managing studios, hosting retreats, and more. Note: While we will refer to purchased texts, many of the lectures will have information not found in the books or even online.
Q: How is the program structured? A: 80% Practice Module: Weekend immersions, park classes, self-practice, group work, and homework. 20% Teaching Module: Refining practice into teaching skills, practicum, and philosophy integration. Total: 200+ hours over 12 months.
